In death

You leave us mysteries

During your last two days in the hospital

Where more than seventy friends

Came to visit you

You could not recall your fall

Police sought in vain for answers

No witnesses appeared

In reverence

I pass your memorial

(A bike painted white

With a basket

In which fresh flowers

Periodically appear)

Placed there to clamor for safer roads

And caution those of us who ride

While you, tragically, will not

Anymore

I hope

It is some comfort

That, though I did not know you,

As I pass and read the dates

Outlining too short a span

I can’t help but wish

You were still here

Riding your bike

This is very sad to think of what happened to Tracy Milillo, but a powerful message for safer roads and such. Thanks for sharing this Tom.

Passing her memorial in my neighborhood, I was compelled to find out more and inspired to write this poem. Thank you, Robie and Wesley for commenting.
